Recent weeks have played host to the exist and re-entry of famous Nollywood stars. Making the waves across the industry include the exist of actor, Emeka Ike, who announced that he will be existing Nollywood. Speaking to an Encomium reporter exclusively the actor said:
“I have not quit Nollywood in the real sense of the word. What I did was to withdraw all my movies from the market, and I mean all the movies that are related with Emeka Ike…and the reason is not far fetched. I am angry with what is going on in the industry. My conscience would not allow me to go on with the decay in the industry. So, I feel that was the best thing to do, to dissociate myself from the problem and stand out! So, henceforth, any Nollywood movie would not involve Emeka Ike. Rather, I want to market all my movies on the label of Emeka Ike Production. If you want to deal with me as an actor, you have to work with me under the label. That clearly separates me from Nollywood.”
The bulk of reactions to this announcement have been negative. In another move Dakore Egbusun Akande is back to the industry. Fans have heard little from her since she tied the knot with Olumide Akande on January 16, 2011. As a result of singer-actress Ashionye’s new movie ‘Journey to Self’, fans will once again be able to watch Dakore dazzle, as she stars alongside a collection of Nollywood stars. ‘Journey to Self’ is an intense story of friendship, sacrifice, empowerment and self-respect’.
It tells the story of four friends, Nse (Nse Ikpe-Etim), Regina (Ashionye Michelle-Raccah), Alex (Dakore Akande) and Rume (Katherine Obiang Edoho) who lose a mutual childhood friend, Uche (Tosin Sido). Uche speaks through a series of letters stirring her friends to a journey of self-discovery.
This project, will also mark the Nollywood debut of Katherine Edoho, a radio/TV presenter-producer who recently separated from ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire‘ presenter Frank Edoho.
